Wine is a gift for the Soul. I've done my part. Now it's in your hands...

The Movia estate dates back to 1700, passing into the hands of the Kristančič family with a wedding in 1820. The estate extends over 22 hectares of land, about half of which lie on the Italian side of the Goriška Brda (Collio).

Movia is more than a mere wine brand and the name of an estate on the borderland between Slovenia (ZGP Brda) and Italy (DOC Collio). Movia is a way of life, life in all its glory, purity of nature and sincerity of the author. Movia is a label beyond time, a mark of standards surpassed as sought by so many wine connoisseurs around the world. From gentle and light classics, through a range of mature wines with good ageing potential, to one-offs second to none other in the world. That and very much more is what Movia is about. And when you alight from the cellar and taste the wines with Aleš, you will taste magic!

The familyYear zero for the Movia estate, as some would say, dates back to Anno Domini 1820 when the family's daughter married Mr Kristančič. Ever since the estate has been cultivating grapevines, alongside traditional fruit production so characteristic of the Brda region, with increasing success and ingenuity.

Nevertheless, they did not forget Nature's bequest: be genuine, respect and do not stand in its way. That is why Movia is more than merely a brand. It is nature's agent in your wine glass, in you.
The Movia estate has existed since 1700 and has been in the hands of the Kristančič family since 1820 following a wedding. The estate covers 18 hectares of land, half of which lie on the Italian side of the Collio.

After World War II the vineyards remained in the family's hands, allowing the continuation of this tradition in the Brda. Our wine's quality allowed the Kristančič family to become exclusive suppliers of wine for state protocol events in the former SFR Yugoslavia in 1958. In keeping with the family's decades of winemaking endeavor, Aleš honed his skills in Bordeaux and in Burgundy, returning back home with the idea of a completely different concept of wine production, enriched with new knowledge of modern winemaking and marketing concepts. It was on the basis of these new ideas that the historical breakthrough of Slovenian wines began.

The Movia brand is among the most important and most frequently awarded wines in South-Eastern Europe.
One fifth of the Kristančič family's annual production is sold domestically, while all of their remaining product is sold to world markets.

Region and wineyards

The most important, decisive investment for any wine producer is his vineyard. A good vineyard, however, requires more, its demands time. It requires patient waiting for the vineyard to mature, to acquire wisdom and to start its coexistence with the vintner and begin developing its own style.

Region

It matters not how we call our Creator. He is the son of the Universe and nothing he does is without reason. In creating the Earth, he did not care at all how we might call him. And he still doesn't. We might as well call him Nature. And back then, eons ago, he did not care at all whether this hill-speckled sunny land on Terra would be called Brda, Goriška Brda or Collio. Names are ephemeral, but the essence of Nature remains. And here, in this corner of the land of Slovenia blessed by the Universe, you might just feel that Eden is not to far away, perhaps it might even be right here on Earth.
Generations of steadfast fighters sculpted by years of labor in the bosom of the earth have left their mark. Sun scorched faces, smiling and wrinkled around the eyes. Anyone is always welcome if only too much work isn't beckoning. Every visitor is welcome to sit at the family table for a chat and a glass of wine.
Alongside nature, tradition also holds its firm homestead in Brda. Vintner families' trace their connection with wine back to the mid eighteenth century. In the mid 1800s many estates purveyed their wines to the Viennese imperial court, the Pope in Rome, to Ljubljana and Udine. A record from the village of Višnjevik dating back to 1336 praises the Rebula (Ribolla), an indigenous variety of the region.

Our vineyards extend over 22 hectares, on both the Slovene and Italian side of the border.
